WPM and accuracy
Typing Speed Test
Type a sample passage to measure words per minute, accuracy, elapsed time, and progress entirely in your browser.
Typing Speed Test
Typing passage
Clear thinking comes from patient observation. A reliable test changes one thing at a time and records what actually happened.
What this tool measures
Typing speed is reported in standard five-character words per minute. Accuracy compares each typed character with the target passage.
How to use it
- Place the cursor in the input field.
- Copy the passage exactly, including punctuation.
- Review WPM and accuracy when the passage is complete.
Uses for a typing speed test
- Measure everyday office typing speed
- Practice before a job or skills assessment
- Compare keyboard layouts, switches, or typing habits
How to interpret WPM and accuracy
The test treats five correct characters as one standard word. Speed has little practical value when accuracy falls sharply.
Repeat the test
Use several runs under the same conditions before drawing a conclusion from a single value.
Compare like with like
Keep the browser, window size, device connection, and power mode consistent when comparing results.
Build accuracy before speed
Keep accuracy consistently high first, then raise WPM gradually through repeated practice.
Do not compare unlike passages
Language, passage difficulty, punctuation, and input method all affect speed. Compare only under matching test conditions.
Measurement limits
Short tests vary considerably. Use several passages for a more stable personal baseline.
Privacy
Measurements are calculated locally in your browser and are not uploaded by the tool.
When a typing speed result looks wrong
Keep the page active
Background-tab throttling, browser extensions, and other busy applications can affect browser measurements.
Retest under controlled conditions
Reload the page, keep the same settings, and repeat the measurement before treating an outlier as a fault.
Input methods affect the result
Candidate selection and composition change character timing. Use the same input method and passage when comparing rounds.
Pasting is blocked
To keep the measurement meaningful, the input field blocks paste and counts only text entered during the test.
Typing speed questions
Is this a hardware certification test?
No. It is a browser-side diagnostic intended for comparison and troubleshooting, not laboratory certification.
Where is the test data processed?
The measurement is calculated in this browser tab and the tool does not upload the raw test input.
How is WPM calculated?
The number of correct characters is divided by five and then divided by the elapsed time in minutes.
What happens when I correct a mistake?
The current input is compared character by character with the passage, so accuracy updates after the text is corrected.
